Deadline Projects to Lecture at 2008 ATC Fall Fest!

As part of Chicago Artists Month, selected members of Deadline Projects will exhibit work in one of Chicago's oldest and well-known annual art shows, the Around the Coyote Fall Arts Festival.

Participating Deadline Projects artists:

Damien James
nikki hollander
Sarah Perez
Shawn Stucky

In addition to exhibiting art, these selected members of Deadline Projects have been asked to speak about the benefits of working in a collective and how we develop our shows. This 40-minute presentation will take place as part of the ATC tour on Sunday, October 19th (please refer to the festival catalogue for exact time).

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: After 19 years in Wicker Park , Around the Coyote (ATC) is moving its fall emerging art festival to the West Loop. For this exciting, break-out exhibition, ATC has found a beautiful new venue for its 2008 Fall Arts Festival in one of Chicago 's most vibrant art neighborhoods. Some of the country's best undiscovered painters, sculptors, photographers, installation artists, printmakers, filmmakers, actors, performance artists, musicians and poets will exhibit, sell and perform their work - all under one roof.

Dear Friends,

THANK YOU to all of you who celebrated our anniversary with us this past Saturday. You all made it such a fun and memorable event! We hope you enjoyed the show. All of our artists worked so hard and we think it showed. We are enjoying a little rest after such a successful and rewarding event. In the meantime, you can see some pictures from the show here.

We will be back with our next show, Squircle, on June 28th. Be sure to check our calendar and blog often for other local art events and happenings!

Love,

Gordon Matta-Clark/Jeni Spota

Gretel and I went over to the MCA this Saturday to check out the Gordon Matta-Clark exhibition, and I had a great experience. The displays were varied, kinetic (great use of film projectors) innovative (light box and protruding glass display, inset in the wall)and engrossing. The overall curatorial effort was refreshingly engaging compared to some exhibits I have attended in the past. There was a touching and haunting photo series that Matta-Clark took after his twin brother tragically died. For this, Matta-Clark documents his descent to the catacombs at Denfert-Rocherau. Circus or The Caribbean Orange was especially interesting due to it's Chicago/MCA connection. If you are going to see the exhibit, I recommend reserving a decent chunk of time.

An unexpected delight was a roomful of painting byJeni Spota, where the Calder stuff normally is.

Okay, the MCA probably doesn't really need my endorsement to get people into the door, so to summarize, great show, go see it.
